Asante Kotoko extended their lead at the top to four points as Great Olympics ended AshantiGold’s home invincibility on match-day-XIV of the premiership.
The weekend’s round of matches produced eighteen goals with a major upset at the Len Clay stadium the only venue to record an away win while a game was postponed.
Earlier on Saturday, Accra Hearts of Oak dropped vital points at home as they shared the spoils with Liberty Professionals in their 1-1 drawn game at the Tema Park.
Ablade Morgan continued with his fine scoring form as he put Hearts of Oak in front after Liberty goalkeeper, Kotei Blankson had made a complete hush of a cross leaving the striker with an easy opportunity to tap in from close range.
Liberty accepted the challenge and found the equalizer in the 30th minute from a spot kick.
A shot at goal hit the hand of Hearts of Oak defender resulting in the spot kick which Tua Khamis slotted home past Laud Quartey in post for the Phobians to make it 1-1.
But on Sunday, Real Sportive recorded a lone goal victory over Sekondi Hasaacas at the Tema park on match-day-XIV.
Hasaacas looked impressive but after twenty-four minutes of play, they fell behind.
Real Sportive’s Samuel Ocran kept his eye on the ball as a defender’s attempted clearance with the head failed and he had the easiest task of tapping in for the match winner.
In Kpando, Heart of Lions picked all three points at the Kpando park where they beat Real Tamale United 1-0.
Both sides failed to find the back of the net ending the first half 0-0.
In the second half, Heart of Lions finally broke the deadlock as Ibrahim Sulemana scored the match winner for Lions.
At the Swedru park, Bofoakwa Tano could not cause an upset as Gamba All Blacks came from a goal down to win 2-1.
Both sides ended the first half goalless. In the second half, Bofoakwa were reduced to a man down after captain Opoku Antwi was sent off for picking up a second yellow card in the 48th minute.
But Bofoakwa Tano drew first blood in the 56th minute when Ebenezer Tetteh smashed in from a freekick to put his side in the lead.
However, the Black Magicians got back into the game steadily as substitute striker, Richard Anderson grabbed a brace to make it 2-1.
Power FC continue to wallow at the bottom of the premiership table as they went down Berekum Arsenals at the Golden City Park.
The Gunners playing before an expectant home crowd proved too strong for the powerless away side and went on to win the game 4-2.
In the fifth minute, Halifax Afranie got the opener for the Gunners before Murtalabi Mohammed scored the second three minutes later.
In the second half, James Boadu made it 3-0 before Kwabena Yaro pulled one back for Power FC in the 58th minute.
The Gunners went ahead again in the 67th minute as Francis Aggrey scored their fourth goal.
However, Power FC fought back and got a second goal through Daniel Quao in the 70th minute.
In Cape Coast, Tema Youth could not recover from an early minute Murtala Mohammed goal that has extended Asante Kotoko’s lead on top the standings by four points.
The premiership debutants played delightfully but lack of concentration on the spell of the moment cost them a point as the lanky Kotoko defender popped up in the area to head in a cross for the opener.
Asante Kotoko, playing their first game at their new home grounds at the Robert Mensah stadium held onto the solitary lead to end the first half 1-0.
The Porcupine Warriors in the second half increased the tally.
Captain, Edmund Owusu-Ansah made sure that the Porcupine Warriors were home and dry as he scored the second goal for Asante Kotoko in the 80th minute.
Then in Obuasi, Great Olympics have ended AshantiGold’s home invincibility as they clawed from a goal down to snatch the maximum points from the Miners at the Len Clay stadium.
The Wonder Boys won the match-day-XIV fixture 2-1, thus becoming the first side to beat the Miners at home.
After fourteen minutes of play in the first half, the Miners shot ahead.
Striker, Opoku Agyemang run through the defence of Great Olympics and lobbed the ball beyond the reach of goalkeeper Ibrahim Salifu.
But in the second half, Great Olympics started drawing rings around the Miners as captain Michael Ocansey grabbed a brace to win the day for his side.
Michael Ocansey started the plot in the 72nd minute when he tapped in from a corner kick.
Sixteen minutes later, the Great Olympics captain was on had to complete the deal when he scored to ensure that his side left the Len Clay stadium with the 3-maximum points.
King Faisal game with Feyenoord Academy was rescheduled to Wednesday at the Sunyani Coronation park.
