After a decade of inactivity on the continental stage, AshantiGold have successfully crafted their way back into Africa’s lucrative competition, the CAF Champions League.
The Miners with a game to go before declaration of champions for this season have qualified for the 2007 African Champions League. AshantiGold still maintain their one point lead on the log after beating Real Sportive 2-0 at home and thus send the league to the wire.
The Obuasi-based club’s CEO, Kudjoe Fianoo says they are happy with their success so far but admits the Miners have still got some work to do before the Champions League competition kick off next year.
“I am satisfied. Having lost out of Africa for ten years, we had to get back to the drawing board to get things back.
“We think the time has come for us to go but we know it’s not going to be easy.
“The technical team would have to get back to the drawing board and assess our strengths for the competition (Champions League).
Fianoo however says playing in Africa is nothing new to the Miners but they have some work to do.
“We have been there before. A lot of water has passed, it’s been ten years and a lot would have to go into it.”
