Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has assured the nation through H.E. Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur, the Vice President, that the team is committed to ending the long Africa Cup of Nations title wait.
The Black Stars are in the semi-finals of the competition and have to get past Burkina Faso on Wednesday to inch much closer to the title.
Gyan delivered the message on Wednesday afternoon after the team had lunch with the Vice President, who is in South Africa to lend his support as Ghana push for a place in the finals.
H.E. Amissah Arthur visited the Ghana camp Wednesday afternoon to meet the GFA and also spoke to members of the Black Stars team and staff.
“I bring you greetings from John Dramani Mahama, the President of the Republic of Ghana. He asked me to come and congratulate you for the efforts that you have put in and where you have brought the country up till now. We in Ghana know that you are sacrificing for the country. We recognise and acknowledge the sacrifices the playing body and the officials have made since Christmas to work for the country.
“There are 24 million Ghanaians who are encouraging you everyday as you play. You see, on the streets of Accra when you are playing, there is no traffic. People are glued to their T.V, listening to the radio and urging you on.
“At the end of the match, We know that victory will be yours and victory will be ours. The last time we won it, not one of you was born. Thirty-one years is such a long a time for Ghana after all the exploits in the last two World Cups. It is time for us to finish off, all the sacrifices that you have made to bring the Cup to Accra.
“The sacrifice must end only in the victory for the team,” H.E. Amissah Arthur told the Black Stars team at their hotel in Nelspruit.
Black Stars captain, Gyan added: “I don't want to speak much. We are only some hours to the game. Everything is positive in camp and I send my greetings to the President back home in Ghana for his prayers and support.”
“It's been 31 years since Ghana lifted the trophy. And that is the main reason why we are here to break this jinx. We will make everybody proud.”
