Players and staff of the Black Satellites have dedicated their second-round 2013 African Youth Championship qualifying victory to late Ghana President, John Evans Atta Mills.

Ghana's U-20 team on Saturday, a day after the former leader was interred in Accra, beat Uganda 3-0 at home to advance 4-3 on aggregate en route to the last-round of qualifiers for the 2013 Championships.

Executive Committee member of the GFA and head of the team's management, George Afriyie paid tribute on behalf of the team in honour of the former President.

"We want to dedicate this victory to our departed leader, H.E. Prof. John Evans Atta Mills," George Afriyie said.

"We wanted to honour his passing and that strengthened us.

"Our first game ended in defeat against Uganda and the tie was turned against us but we found the strength. He [President John Evans Atta Mills] always preached the nation to believe and I think the players indeed believed they could turn it around and they did that."

The former leader's passing has left the nation mourning but reignited a sense of unity as many continue to pay tribute.

Ghana's victory sets up a two-leg final round decider against Morocco next month.
