Having retired from international football with Ghana, Stephen Appiah is hoping to make a fresh start after signing for Serie A new boys Cesena.

The former Ghana captain endured a difficult two-year period as a injury and contractual issues as he spent much time on the sidelines than on the pitch.

Appiah, who joined Cesena early in August as a free agent after spending the 2009-10 campaign with Bologna tells the BBC that he's hungry for success and believes the 2010-11 Italian season will re-establish him as a top player.

"I didn't play a lot of games for Bologna last season but I'm hoping to get more playing time this season.

"In training I've showed the coach that I'm ready to play and I feel good," Appiah said, adding that his main priority is to help his new team avoid relegation at the end of the season.

"I've had a difficult time in the last two years and I'm determined to put that behind me and enjoy my football again," said Appiah in reference to the injuries and contractual issues he had with previous club Fenerbahce of Turkey.
