Ivory Coast striker Didier Drogba has claimed the 2009 Glo-CAF African Footballer of the Year.
The Chelsea striker added the prestigious award to his growing list of accolades at a Caf gala ceremony in the Ghanaian capital, Accra, Thursday night to deny Cameroon striker, Samuel Eto'o, a fourth and Ghana's Michael Essien, a first shot at the gong.
Despite missing the ultimate, Essien, made it to the Africa finest eleven alongside national teammate John Paintsil.
On a night when the ultimate eluded the Black Stars player, Ghana bagged two individual awards.
For masterminding Ghana's victory first at the Africa Youth Championships before taking the Black Satellites to a historic first victory at the World Youth event in Egypt last year, coach Sellas Tetteh was voted the Coach of the Year.
The star of the tournament, Dominic Adiyiah whose eight goals made him the most outstanding player of that tournament was rewarded with the Best Young Player on the continent.
The National Team of the Year went to Algeria for their stupendous performance, beating rivals Egypt for their group's single slot for the World Cup.
Mputu Mabi of TP Mazembe snatched the Best African Player on the Continent while his club TP Mazembe emerged the Club of the Year.
The Supporters Club of the Year went to South Africa Supporters Club.
The Fair Play Award went to Al-Hilal supporters for cheering on even when they lost to Mazembe.
