Opoku Agyemang's World Cup chances has been hit after it was confirmed the Ghana youngster has suffered a cruciate ligament injury.

The young attacker is set to be ruled out for six months, thus effectively missing June's World Cup in South Africa.

Doctors broke the news to the player this week after picking up the injury during an Asian Champions League game for Al Sadd.

Agyemang, 20, will undergo surgery next week in Qatar

"It happened in an Asian Champions League game and when the doctors told me about the level of injury, I cried," he told KickOffGhana.com.

"I know I am missing out on a huge chance to play on a stage every player craves for but it has already happened. Naturally though I am very down at the moment. They say the muscles in my knees are torn."

The youngster is however hoping to return quickly but admits that it will be difficult sitting on the sidelines during this lengthy period.

"I have many players suffer similar injuries and come back so I am hopeful. It will be tough to sit out for that long but I can't do anything about it."
