Asante Kotoko have skipped the preliminary rounds of next year's CAF-MTN Champions League after the draw for the competition was made.

The draw for the CAF Inter-Clubs Championship was conducted on Thursday afternoon at the headquarters of the continent's soccer controlling body in Cairo, Egypt.

Ghanaian league champions, two-time winners of the club competition, Kotoko, will commence their campaign at the 1/16th stage after drawing a bye.

Kotoko were one of the eleven qualified sides for the competition to draw a bye.

The Porcupine Warriors would a book a date with the winner of the tie involving Ittihad Zemouri Khemisset of Morocco and Wallidan of Gambia.

Despite serving a two-match home ban for crowd troubles in during the last Confederation Cup campaign in September, Kotoko will host the first leg on the weekend of March 13-15 with the second leg to be played in a fortnight.

Heart of Lions, the other Ghanaian side in competition would get off their debut campaign in the preliminary stage with a fixture against Etoile Filante from Burkina Faso.

Lions, who came second on the domestic scene last season, will travel to Ouagadougou for the first leg on the weekend of January 30 and February 1 with return slated for Accra in a fortnight.
