Hayatou arrives for Ghana Awards

President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Issa Hayatou today arrived in the country to join in Ghana's National Awards Day scheduled for Thursday, July 3 in Accra.

The CAF President, who was met at the airport by the President of the Ghana Football Association, Kwesi Nyantakyi was nominated for the Order of the Volta - Member (Sports) award by Ghana's President John Agyekum Kufuor.

Hayatou, 62, from Cameroon, who has headed the continent's soccer controlling body for the past 20-years, is one of the few expatriates on the list of recipients.

Alhaji Hayatou, is being rewarded for his outstanding contribution to the development of football on the continent and the world as a whole.

Also on the list to receive the Order of Volta - Member, are: Alhaji Nurudeen Jawula, former president of Ghana Football Association (Sports) and Dr Kofi Amoah, Chairman of LOC Ghana 2008 (sports).

Ghana Football Association Executive Committee member, Randy Abbey, would also be picking up an award.

Seven other football persons have been nominated to receive awards.

The football fraternity would be represented at Ghana’s National Awards Day by two football administrations, four footballers - three retired - and a technical person.

They are: Kwasi Appiah a former player of the Black Stars and presently the senior team’s assistant coach together with Opoku Nti, another former player of the team would join Adjoa Bayor – Present captain of the Black Queens and Alberta Sackey - Former captain of the Black Queens to be decorated with awards.

Emmanuel Kwasi Afranie – Coach of the Under-17 side, the Black Starlets would receive an award.

The football administrators picking up awards are: Alhaji Grunsah - Founder of King Faisal- and Alhaji Sly Tetteh – Chairman of Liberty Professionals.

A number of personalities would be honoured during this year’s National Awards Day.
