Ghana’s inspirational captain Stephen Appiah and Chelsea’s Michael Essien have teamed up to help improve the welfare of orphans in the country.

The Europe-based duo donated an undisclosed amount of money during the Easter holidays to the Easter Orphan Project aimed at helping orphanages in Ghana.

Even though the players are keen for the amount donated remain secret, their intention of helping to alleviate the problems faced by orphans in the country is clear.

Sam Atta Mensah, the managing director of Citi FM, who put together the Easter Orphan Project, praised the duo for their contribution after receiving the donation.

“I will like to thank Appiah and Essien for their kind gesture. The Easter Orphan Project is grateful for their contribution and the funds will go a long way to help orphans around the country,” said Sammens.

“Citi FM is proud to be the organisers of the Easter Orphan Project and, with the help of big names like Michael and Stephen, we can achieve our aim of raising enough funds for Ghanaian orphans.”

“I hope other Ghanaians will follow the good example set by our heroes and contribute to make the project a big success.”

The donation was made by a member of the StepApp team as both players are currently in Europe because of their club commitments.

The StepApp Foundation, the charity started by Appiah with the support of Essien, is keen to give back to the needy in the country.
