The timing of the African Cup of Nations in recent times has come under attack from some European clubs as the call-up of players to play for their national sides disrupt their league ambitions.
Just this week, President of the Confederation of African Football, Issa Hayatou insisted that the competition will not be rescheduled as CAF maintains the January kick off date.
CAF says the June weather in much of Africa is not ideal for football.
However, the FIFA President, Sepp Blatter has jumped into the same thorny issue, after telling the BBC that the timing of the Africa Cup of Nations must be changed.
And Blatter has gone ahead to give timeline by which he expects the timing of the CAN to change over.
Blatter says that by 2016, the biennial tournament must be held in June and July like other major tournaments.
"This is a tradition, but one should have now the courage to go into the international calendar and see if it's not possible to deal with it," said Blatter.
"We put a target for 2016 that by that time the international calendar must be definitely in accordance with the interests of everybody."
Even though there would also be the problem of a clash with the World Cup every four years, Sepp Blatter has suggested that the Nations Cup could be moved to odd years.
