A successful Congressional session today in Accra has fixed December 1 as the date for the start of the new football season.
The decision means the nation’s premier league which had been delayed after a protracted legal battle waged against the Ghana Football Association would finally kick off on the date as announced by Congress at its Ordinary session on Thursday at the headquarters of the FA.
FA President, Kwesi Nyantakyi started the day’s deliberations with an address to Congress.
The 123 member body settled on the December 1 date after Professional League Board chairman, Welbeck Abra-Appiah had read his proposal on the premier league.
By the proposal, ten league games would be honoured within the period ending on January 13 to make way for the African Cup of Nations to be hosted by Ghana beginning January 20 to February 10.
According to the proposal, all sixteen premiership teams are to begin the registration of players for the league.
The agenda for Congress also perused and accepted the Football Association’s auditored financial accounts spanning the period 2005-2006 which also covered the World Cup.
The session also made amendments to sections of the statutes and regulations of the FA.
123 members of the football fraternity gathered in Accra as the Ghana Football Association's Ordinary Congress got underway.
Congress is the supreme and legislative organ of the Ghana Football Association which defines the FA's general policies and takes the necessary decisions for implementation by the Executive Committee and the secretariat.
