Ghana would host sports media experts for a conference that would seek to create the environment for the press to dialogue on a host of issues concerning the industry.
The event which comes up on October 17 at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in the Ghanaian capital, Accra, is expected to attract sporting personalities like Danny Jordan, a key member of South Africa’s 2010 World Cup organising committee, Dr. Amos Adamu - CAF & FIFA Executive Committee Member, CAF’s Communications Director, Suileman Habuba and Martin Davies - Business Development Manager BBC World Service.
Other high profile guest would be Prof Dominic Fobih – Ghana’s Minister of Education Science & Sports and Dr. Kofi Amoah - Chairman of Ghana’s LOC for CAN 2008.
According to organisers, “The conference will provide a unique platform for sports journalists, editors, producers, administrators, trainers, policy makers analysts and progressive partners such as CAF, FIFA, local radio and TV stations on the continent to assess themselves and share ideas on how to raise standards in sports journalism in Ghana and Africa.”
The conference, which has the support of the BBC, Progeny INC and Nestle Ghana as major sponsors is expected to attract some 400 delegates, according to Yaw Ampofo-Ankra, a member of the organising team.
The gathering which is the second edition, comes some 48 hours before the draw for the 2008 African Cup of Nations will also be used to provide a marketing, business and tourism platform for all stakeholders and sponsors.
Also, the organisers would hand out special awards to individuals and companies in recognition of their support and contributions to the development of sports in general and the promotion of the sports media in Ghana.
Among award receipents are: the late Edward Osei, Alhaji Sly Tetteh chairman of Liberty Professionals, Kwabena Yeboah a sports journalist and cellular service providers, MTN.
