The Tema park is closed down for all league matches as contractors begin work on the surface of the grounds.
The pitch surface, which has natural grass would be scraped for the rolling out the third-generation artificial turf surface.
Ghana’s Football Association on Monday handed over the grounds to local sub-contractor, EP Ghana to begin the civil works on the surface before the project contractors, Green Fields begin laying the FIFA recommended artificial turf.
The FIFA funded project is expected to be completed in May with the main contractors, Greenfields Sports Turf Systems. The introduction of the artificial turf is expected to reduce the cost of growing and maintaining natural grass fields. Already, three premiership clubs have secured new home grounds for the rest of the league season beginning Wednesday due to the closure of the grounds for the laying of the new surface.
Hearts of Oak, Tema Youth and Real Sportive have ended their stay at the Tema park as they relocate to the Carl Reindorff park in Dansoman and the Robert Mensah stadium in Cape Coast.
