Kumasi Asante Kotoko have ended their poor run in the league with their first win of the New Year on match-day-20 while Hearts of Oak drop valuable points at home.
The gap at the top of the standings continue to be narrowed as Accra Hearts of Oak now lead their closest contenders with just a point though they have a game to spare.
However, the Phobians could be forced to surrender their lead since Ashantigold have a game in hand which comes off before their match-day-7 fixture with Tema Youth on February 10.
Asante Kotoko finally picked their first win in five league games after beating Power FC 1-0 at the Robert Mensah stadium in Cape Coast on match-day-20.
The win is also the first for the club this year and appears to end their poor run ahead of their CAF Champions League fixture on Saturday.
Kotoko thus stop Power FC’s three-game winning streak which had lifted them from the bottom of the table.
Seven minutes into the second half, Emmanuel Osei Kuffour playing his first league game for the Porcupine Warriors set up midfielder, John Cudjoe to score the opener which happened to be the match winner.
With four minutes to go, Alan Shearer put Power FC on level pegging. But Nana Arhin Duah in injury time poked in the winner for Kotoko.
At the Tema park, Real Tamale United shared the spoils with league leaders, Accra Hearts of Oak as both sides settled for a goalless draw game.
Though an important point for RTU, they still prop the sixteen club table.
Only a point separates Real Tamale United with the fifteenth and fourteenth placed clubs on the table.
This is the second consecutive goalless drawn game for the Phobians. Hearts of Oak before this tie had drawn goalless and have thus picked only two points from a maximum of six.

And they had a goal by Isaac Donkor disallowed for an offside in the 17th minute.
The first half ended goalless and in the second half, Hasaacas were reduced to ten men, when Daniel Ampadu was shown the red card.
All Blacks could not take advantage of the numerical strength as Hasaaacas played a determined game to end the game 0-0.
Liberty Professionals could only settle for a point at home as Bofoakwa Tano forces a goalless drawn game at the Carl Reindorff park.
The Dansoman-based side have thus gone five games without a win having drawn three league games.
Though an important away point for Bofoakwa Tano, they are fourth from bottom with only two points separating them from bottom-placed, Real Tamale United.
The game between Real Sportive and AshantiGold has been rescheduled for Wednesday, 7 February.
