Ghana's capital, Accra would be hosting the annual Confederation of African Football awards ceremony on 18 January.

The event was originally scheduled for the Nigerian capital Abuja, the venue for the last event.

CAF Director of Communications, Suleiman Habuba has confirmed that the executive committee will meet on 20 December in Cairo to ratify the switch in venue.

"The Caf awards is a continental event and should be held in different countries across the continent," Habuba said on Monday.

"The organisers have now secured a venue in Accra and the executive committee is expected to approve the new venue."

South Africa and Nigeria have previously staged the ceremony during which the continent's best players are honoured.

Cameroon international striker Samuel Eto'o, who has won the CAF African Player of the Year for the past three years, is again one of the five nominees for the prestigious individual awards.

The other nominees are Michael Essien (Ghana/Chelsea), Nwankwo Kanu (Nigeria/Portsmouth), Didier Drogba (Ivory Coast/Chelsea) and Mohamed Aboutrika (Egypt/Ahly).

The ceremony will also crown the continent's best female footballer, the best team, best goalkeeper and best goal among other awards.
