The Ghana Football Association has named Frenchman, Claude Le Roy as the new headcoach of the senior national team, Black Stars.
A statement signed by FA general secretary, Kofi Nsiah and copied to its official website, www.ghanafa.org stated that the Frenchman would be signing a contract with Ghana when he arrives next week.
“Mr Le Roy would be arriving in Accra by September 20 to sign a contract with the Ghana Football Association after which he would be outdoored.”
The former DR Congo coach beat local manager, Cecil Jones Attuquayefio to the Black Stars job.
After signing his contract, Le Roy’s first job would be to lead the Black Stars to Asia where they play two international friendly games in four days against Japan in Yokohama on October 4 and travel to Seoul to take on South Korea on October 8. The Football Association’s nine-member search committee set up to scout for a new coach for the Black Stars on September, 6 interviewed the two from a list of three shortlisted candidates in Accra for the Black Stars job.
The committee in August shortlisted three applicants, Cecil Jones Attuquayefio and two Frenchmen, Claude Le Roy and Phillippe Troussier from a tall list of 54 candidates.
But Phillippe Troussier failed to show up for the job interview.
Claude Le Roy’s finest moment came in 1988 when he led Cameroon to the African Nations Cup title before returning to coach them at the 1998 World Cup in his homeland.
He has also coached Senegal and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The Black Stars head coach position had been vacant since Serbian Ratomir Dujkovic resigned in July following a second round finish at the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
