The Confederation of African Football-CAF on Friday launched the ‘Contract with Africa’, a grassroots development strategy in Accra as the Ghana Football Association becomes a beneficiary of the project.
CAF president, Issa Hayatou unveiled the project which would seek to develop the game on the continent.
The project is targeted developing the game from the grassroots, enriching human resources to the provision of adequate infrastructure and the availability of dynamic administrative component.
The CAF boss stated his satisfaction with the launch of the project which would help revolutionarize the game and develop African football.
“I am very satisfied with the launching of this programme which will benefit a great deal of change to the football of our continent, which is plagued by the economic devastation which does not compare to the wealth of other continents.
“A Contract with Africa”, the blue print of this revolutionary CAF project, should help to improve and boost the potentials of CAF through the under0aged and women’s competitions, including the lucrative champions league and other tournaments.
“The desire of CAF is not just to develop African football but also to use it as a tool in fighting other challenges like violence, promotion of fair play and the fight against child labour,” the CAF boss said.
The development project, Contact with Africa is a grassroots oriented and direct financial assistance from CAF to all national associations.
The Ghana Football Association has already appointed its education and development officer who will be introduced on Friday at the ceremony.
Ghana Football Association president, Kwesi Nyantakyi said the FA was committed to improving the game.
“The plan falls in tandem with our local initiative, the GFA’s 4-year Business and Development plan. The plan encompasses our vision for coaching, refereeing, men’s competition, women’s football, marketing, administration and planning, media relations and information and communication technology,” the FA president said.
Francis Oti Akenteng is the Football Association’s new education and development officer.
Oti Akenteng would play an integral role in the FA’s programmes especially for youth football and technical development.
The Black Satellites coach will be supported financially and handed educational materials by CAF.
He expressed his gratitude for being the first person selected to administer the project in Ghana.
“I am grateful to the FA boss and the executive committee. I would work to justify the confidence reposed in me.
“I would try to work very hard.
“I would want to make the wearing of the crown be easier,” the national coach after accepting the appointment.
The move in appointing an educational and development officer forms part of the Football Association’s development of the game, which in contained in its four-year business development plan.
Since the inception of the project Contract with Africa last year, CAF has donated $100,000 to 10 national associations each.
