Kumasi Asante Kotoko back from their continental blues set all guns blazing at home, beating Berekum Arsenals 3-0 at the Konongo Park.
The Porcupine Warriors went ahead in the 12th minute through Nana Arhin Duah who fired past Ransford Kudjoe in post for the Gunners.
Two minutes later, Ali Quedraogo increased the tally for Asante Kotoko.
Before the hour mark, Kotoko coach E.K. Afranie made two changes bringing on Aziz Ansah and Kwame Obeng Darko for Osei Kwame and goalscorer, Ali Quedraogo.
Arsenals player, Halifax Afranie was shown the red card after picking up a second yellow card in the second half.
With time ticking away, Arsenals defender Fuseini Adams miscued a ball from Aziz Ansah into his net.
“I didn’t like the way the Arsenals players were hacking down my player.
“They don’t have any complex against Kotoko. They played well but my boys were ready for the battle. I hope we keep up with this performance,” Kotoko coach told ghanaleague.com.
For Arsenals coach, Paa Kwesi Fabin, defensive errors cost them defeat.
“It is unfortunate. I didn’t think we could lose that much. There were various problems in our defence. I mean, what game is this? We would continue next time,” Paa Kwesi Fabin said.
Hasaacas scale Olympics hurdle
Sekondi Hasaacas bounced back from their opening day loss to beat premiership returnees, Accra Great Olympics 2-1 at the Gyandu Park.
Disaster struck Great Olympics in the early minutes of the game when goalkeeper, Joseph Halm, who had been in fine form was stretched off.
Halm collided with an opposing player and was rushed to the hospital. Great Olympics coach, Ken Augustt replaced his number one pick with Benjamin Mensah.
But before Benjamin Mensah could settle in post, the Hasmal Boys playing with much precision scored first through veteran attacker, John Ainoo, who put Hasaacas ahead in the 11th minute.
Then in the 37th minute, Frederick Quayeson made it two for the home side.
The scoreline stayed the same until the 69th minute when Andrews Pomayie scored a consolation for Great Olympics from a freekick.
Miners share the spoils with RTU
AshantiGold’s bright start to the new season nearly suffered a jolt but veteran star, Emmanuel Osei Kuffour rescued a point for the Miners in their game against Real Tamale United at the Cape Coast stadium.
Real Tamale United shot ahead first through Gilbert Ayikade in the late minutes of the first half.
Ayikade’s goal ended separated both clubs till regulation time.
Back from recess, the AshantiGold started off strongly and eighteen minutes into the second half, former Accra Hearts of Oak marksman, Emmanuel Osei Kuffour leveled up for the Miners from a corner kick.
The Pride of the North had to relocate to the Cape Coast grounds because of a three-game home ban from last season.
Tema Youth draw with Feyenoord
Tema Youth managed to pick a point against Feyernoord Academy in their 1-1 drawn game at the Swedru Sports Stadium.
The premiership debutants playing away scored in the 22nd minute through captain, Bernard Akuffo.
Homeside, Feyenoord Academy failed to draw level to end the first half 1-0 for Tema Youth.
But in the second half Feyenoord Academy spurred the opportunity to draw level when a penalty awarded them was saved by Tema Youth goalkeeper Ernest Sowah.
Seidu Yahaya of Tema Youth was shown the red card and that brought pressure to bare on the team.
Tema Youth’s efforts at containing their opponents failed as Dominic Adiyah continued his impressive form to draw level from a powerful strike outside the penalty box.
Faisal split points with Power
Power FC rallied from a goal down to draw 1-1 with King Faisal in their rain soaked clash at the Ho Sports stadium.
Kick off was delayed due to the heavy downpour that preceded the match.
Both clubs struggled to break the deadlock ending the first half 0-0.
In the second half, King Faisal’s Edmund Owusu-Peprah struck first to put the Kumasi side in the lead but in the closing stages of the game, Jonathan Abeiku got the equalizer for the homeside.
Liberty roar loudest against Lions
Liberty Professionals roared the loudest recording their first win beating Heart of Lions 2-1 at the Karl Reindorff Park in Dansoman.
The win gives Liberty Professionals their first win after losing the season’s opener.
The Dansoman-based side first scored through Yaw Antwi in the 12th minute of the first half.
Liberty Professionals guarded their lead to end the first half 1-0.
Five minutes into the second half, Mohammed Tuaha Khamis increased the tally for Liberty Professionals.
The wounded Lions got a consolation through Ibrahim Sulemana in the dying minutes of the game.
Bofoakwa draw goalless with Sportive
Tano Bofoakwa and Real Sportive drew goalless in their match-day-II of the premier league at the Sunyani Coronation Park.
Both sides struggled to break the deadlock Real Sportive looked the brighter side on the day through poor finishing robbed them off a point.
But at the end of proceedings, the shared the spoils.
Hearts find magicians potion
Accra Hearts of Oak have registered their first win in six competitive games beating Gamba All Blacks 1-0 at home on Saturday.
Stanley Afedzie saved the blushes of Accra Hearts of Oak scoring from a freekick with 12 minutes to go against Gamba All Blacks.
The Phobians playing at the Ho Park looked a much improved side from their previous games but struggled to break the Black Magicians in the early minutes of the game.
Both sides probed for goals but drew blanks to end the first half goalless.
The Phobians were awarded a penalty after a corner kick from captain Amankwah Mireku was handled by Isaac Vorsah in the box.
The transfer season’s most expensive player, Eric Gawu stepped up to take the kick but missed target.
Hearts of Oak coach Mitko Kostadinov Dobrez pulled out the club’s most expensive signing and brought Bawa Mohammed.
With twelve minutes to go, Stanley Afedzie connected an Anthony Annan pass from a freekick beating All Blacks goalkeeper, Isaac Akrong.
The goal was the first for the Phobians in six competitive games.
