Ghana's national under-20 side, the Black Satellites stopped the junior Teranga Lions from roaring, beating the Senegalese 2-0 in the first leg of the African Youth Championship qualifier on Sunday.
Two second half goals from Mark Adu Amofa and Jerry Akaminko gave the Black Satellites the win at the Obuasi Len Clay Sports Stadium.
The team's victory appears not only be a sweet one for the players who had struggled scoring in their build up to the game but also a morale booster for the coach Francis Oti Akenteng who lost his job with Hearts of Oak last. It took the Satellites 59 minutes before breaking the deadlock after finding it hard break through the defensive-minded attitude of the Teranga Lions.
A long volley from Ghana captain Jerry Akaminko into the area of the Senegalese found Mark Adu Amofa who pounced on the loose ball and delivered a first time kick which goalkeeper S.Y. Biti spilled into way and Amofa nodded in the rebound for the opener in the 59th minute. The opposition after the goal opened up play and the Black Satellites launched series of raids into their area and it was during one of such raids that striker Opoku Agyemang was fouled in the box by Sidy Ndiaye for a penalty and Akaminko rifled in the ball for the second goal for the Satellites. The Satellites had a tall order to win the game at all cost as they missed the last two editions of the African Youth competitions. Ghana line up: Isaac Ackon, Jerry Akaminko, Solomon Addy, Samuel Kaku Enzemoba, Isaac Vorsah/Jonathan Quartey, Francis Mantey, Opoku Agyemang, Charles Boateng, Sadat Bukari, Mark Adu Amofah/Kwadwo Asamoah, Emmanuel Osei Banahene/Boakye Kofi Nti.
