Portsmouth are ready to firm up their interest in Fenerbahce star Stephen Appiah according to SkySports reports.

Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp is determined to bolster his squad before the transfer window closes on Thursday and he has earmarked a move for the Ghana captain.

Redknapp is a big admirer of Appiah and believes he would fit the bill as to what he needs at Fratton Park.

Portsmouth are on the brink of signing the Ghana captain for £6m from Fenerbahce.

A number of clubs have been keeping a watching brief on Appiah's situation following his impressive performances for Ghana at the World Cup.

Fenerbahce have rebuffed all enquiries for the powerhouse midfielder, but are now facing a losing fight to keep hold of him following their failure to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

Portsmouth are now believed to be ready to test their resolve to hang onto Appiah by tabling a substantial bid for the former Juventus man.

Pompey will be keen to get the go ahead to step up their interest in Appiah as they look to sign him before the transfer window slams shut.
