This season’s premiership would not only be competitive for the sixteen clubs participating for honours but the league referees would also be competing to avoid the drop.
The Ghana Football Association has finally reduced the number of referees officiating in the domestic premier league this season.
The FA has reduced the number of premier league referees from the present 61 to 35 in order to improve the level of efficiency in the performance of the match officials.
Also 10 referees would be on stand-by to take over from referees who fail to perform creditably this season.
According to the football association, the move would improve the quality of local refereeing.
The Professional League Board, organizers of the premier league has already adopted the refereeing reforms.
The president of the Ghana Football Association, Kwesi Nyantakyi insists a smaller number of referees will enhance the quality of officiating in the league as the men in the middle would strive to avoid dropping below the standard bar.
