The Ghana Football Association are scheduled to respond to CAF following the football body’s decision to have the African Women’s Championship qualifier between Ghana and Congo played on a new date.
The Confederation of African Football – CAF, on Monday ordered that the African Women’s Championship qualifier between Ghana and Congo be played on a new date.
Congo failed to show up for the first leg of the qualifier in Obuasi on Sunday after several indecisions over their arrival date, forcing the match commissioner to call off the tie and declare Ghana winners over the two legs.
According to the CAF regulations, Congo have to convince the continental governing body that an element of force majeur prevailed making it impossible for them to honour the match on the scheduled date.
After their initial request for the game to be postponed to Monday was turned down by the Ghana Football Association, the Congolese had informed the FA they would arrive in Ghana on Saturday.
They failed to show up and again sent a request on Sunday that the game be played on Tuesday.
But in a surprise twist to events, CAF wants the two federations to agree on a new date for the match.
The Black Queens lined up for kick off according to match formalities but their Congolese opponents put up a no show at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium.
Match referee, Dia Fatouma from Senegal called off the game adjudging Ghana as winners.
The Black Queens have returned to their Winneba camp and continue efforts to remain in shape for upcoming assignments.
Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea for now are the only nations to have qualified for the 5th African Women Championship.
