Former AshantiGold Chief Executive Andy Sam has been appointed the Deputy Chief Operating Officer of the CAN 2008 Local Organising Committee.
Mr Sam who steered the affairs of one of Ghana's best run football clubs for years before leaving office last year will be required to work towards making the 2008 African Cup of Nations which Ghana is hosting a success.
Dr Kofi Amoah, Chairman of the LOC said in a statement on the appointment said Mr Sam will bring to the Secretariat a plethora of skills experience, commitment and excellence in career achievements.
He said the former Ashgold boss will also support the Committee with his passion for sports which will undoubtedly be of immense benefit to the hosting and organisation of the tournament.
"I'm very much assured that this appointment is now well positioned to deliver a world-class organisation and hosting of the CAN 2008 tournament and to add to the brilliant international image the nation has attained over the years.
A chartered accountant by profession, Mr Sam played hockey at the level for Ghana and also served in the Ghana Armed Forces.
