The President of the Ghana Football Association, Kwesi Nyantakyi says the football association is working at improving on the Black Stars’ performance during the World Cup.
The Black Stars’ impressive World Cup debut has fuelled hopes of an African Cup of Nations success in 2008, which would be Ghana would be hosting.
Ghana, four time champions at the Cup of Nations put up a below par performance in this year’s competition culminating in a first round exit.
But with two year to go for Africa’s biannual soccer fiesta, Kwesi Nyantakyi says the FA would be building on the World Cup success to ensure the Black Stars claim a fifth African title.
Kwesi Nyantakyi in an exclusive interview with ghanafa.org stated that the World Cup hype attached to the Black Stars would have to be put behind as plans for the future get off the starting blocks.
“We have a major tournament in 2008.
“We are hosting the African Cup of Nations and we have to put behind what has happened at the World Cup and focus on our preparations for the Cup of Nations.
“We would be receiving a report from our technical team and that would contain an appraisal of each players performance and the team in totality and then we would review this report and see which players would be retained and those who would have to be replaced by up and coming players.
"We have our development plan in place.
“The objective of this plan is to unearth and develop football talents. So we would be working towards building a strong force for the Cup of Nations and ensure that we have a formidable squad for the African Cup of Nations.
“The policy would be to review the Black Stars and all other national teams from time to time and replenish the stock to ensure we are always ready for battle,” he said.
Ghana’s senior national side, the Black Stars would be playing Nigeria’s Super Eagles in their first international friendly on August 15 in London.
The match is the first preparatory game for the Black Stars ahead of the African Cup of Nations.
The national under 20 side the Black Satellites would also get busy when they begin their African Youth Championship qualifiers with a tie against Senegal on August 6.
