Gold Fields Ghana Limited [Tarkwa & Damang], Headline Sponsors of the Black Stars today promised to continue with their support for the senior national team’s up towards the Nation's Cup in 2008 to be hosted in Ghana.
Gold Fields Ghana Limited [Tarkwa & Damang], has been instrumental in turning around Ghana’s football fortunes after injecting a huge financial package during the World Cup qualifying rounds.
The mining company's $3 million sponsorship package contributed to the Black Stars’ impressive maiden World Cup participation where the team managed a second round place after impressive results against the Czech Republic and the United States in the group stages.
Mike Ezan, Executive Director of Gold Fields Ghana Limited [Tarkwa & Damang], in his speech stated that the company remains committed to the course of the Black Stars and would make the most of the remaining period of their contract until 2008. Players and officials of the Ghana Football Association were hosted to a breakfast session at the corporate office Goldfields Ghana Limited in Accra.
FA President, Kwesi Nyantakyi thanked the Headline Sponsors of the Black Stars for the contribution to the team over the years and pledged the football association’s commitment to keep the relationship going.
Black Stars captain, Stephen Appiah also paid glowing tribute to the team’s major sponsors and tasked other corporate bodies to emulate the reception accorded the team by Gold Fields Ghana Limited [Tarkwa & Damang].
Later in the day, the Black Stars visited Ghana's Legislature where they fraternized with members of the house.
The Speaker of Parliament, Ebenezer Sekyi-Hughes presented certificates of Honour to members of the team, the technical handlers and FA officials.
He also donated an undisclosed amount to the team.
Meanwhile, a $100,000 cash donation from Al Walid Bin Talal, Prince of Saudi Arabia was presented to the team in another function at the Sports Ministry.
