Ghana captain Stephen Appiah says the Black Stars are set to make sacrifices for the nation when they play Italy on Monday in Hannover in their opening Group E match.
The Black Stars left their Wurzburg camp Sunday for Hannover in high spirits with the players setting their sights now on completing the tough Italian job on Monday.
Ghana wrapped up their preparations for the Italy game Saturday with their last training session at the Wurzburg training grounds which was again watched by large numbers including the media.
Stephen Appiah, who has the tough task of rallying his Stars for battle against Italy’s Azzurri remains confident in the abilities of his colleagues.
Appiah, who has enjoyed success in his soccer career from his days at Udinese, Parma and Juventus where he crowned it off with a Scudetto says the Black Stars are in high spirits.
“Motivation is very high among us.
“All the players are ready to die for the country. The team has to maintain the level as we are taking it match after match.
“The fans would have to pray and support us and we would not disappoint them.
“We would give them the best of our abilities to secure victory not only in the Italy game but the rest.”
Appiah would come face-to-face with his former mentor, Italy coach Marcello Lippi.
Appiah, now at Fenerbahce, spent two seasons with Lippi's old club Juventus.
"It's going to be a special game for me. We all know Italian soccer is among the best in the world," said Appiah.
"What I learned from Italy, I will have to prove. I'm happy to be able to see a coach like Marcello Lippi again."
Ghana midfielder, Michael Essien, who has been in impressive form in the Black Stars three trail matches that preceded the start of World Cup is equally confident of the teams chances though he recognizes the opposition would be a tough one.
“It’s one of the big games. It is not an easy game but we are looking up to this game.
“I would try and do my maximum best.”
