Ghana's capital, Accra is been thrown into a carnival mood following the arrival of the Black Stars from Germany.
The Black Stars arrived Friday evening to a rousing welcome from thousands of fans who had gathered three hours prior to their arrival at the Kotoka International Airport.
Ghana bowed out of the World Cup after losing to Brazil in the second round on Tuesday in Dortmund.
But the flags were still flying as the chanting fans clad in the national colours possessed the tarmac to great the players who touched down aboard a KLM flight at 18:00 GMT.
The crowd roared to the loudest as the players disembarked from the plane.
Chelsea midfielder, stepped out to pop the first champagne to the delight of the gleeful crowd.
On hand to welcome the team was the vice president, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, ministers of State, members of the legislature, the diplomatic corps and heads of corporate institutions.
The team was decorated with floral garlands.
Ghanaian fans who had eagerly been awaiting the arrival of the Black Stars finally had a feel of their stars who were the only African nation to manage a place in the round of 16. Though the Black Stars team was without some high profile members of the team that did not affect the joy that had engulfed the airport.
Ghana coach Ratomir Dujkovic was excused to travel to his native Serbia after guiding Ghana to an impressive inaugural world cup appearance in Germany.
Captain Stephen Appiah and midfielder Sulley Ali Muntari were also not part of the team that arrived.
Both players sought permission to fly out to Italy for other pressing issues.
That notwithstanding, fans who spoke to ghanafa.org were reveling in the carnival atmosphere.
An elated FA president, Kwesi Nyantakyi said every member of the team was happy to have represented and served the nation.
“We are very grateful for the reception accorded the team. It shows you how appreciative Ghanaians are. We thank them for the wonderful support and hope we can count on this great support as we prepare for the challenges ahead.
“The support shown this evening goes to inform every member of the team that they (players) have the backing of the people.
“We thank every Ghanaian for the wonderful reception accorded us and hope to replicate this gesture whenever we represent Ghana, our great nation.”
The Ministry of Information and National Orientation in conjunction with the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports on Thursday announced a grand welcome package the Black Stars.
An all night musical concert soon got underway at the Independence Square for the fans to celebrate Ghana’s impressive performance at the World Cup.
