One of the gatecrashers to Ghana’s world cup party is AIK Stockholm's Derek Boateng.
The former under 20 star was a surprise inclusion in the 23-man squad announced by Black Stars coach Ratomir Dujkovic for next month’s tournament.
Considered one of the hottest prospects in World football in the early 2000's, Derek Boateng seemed to have dropped off the international radar.
Derek last turned out for the Black Stars opening qualifier against Burkina Faso in 2004.
With the call up, Derek Boateng is hoping to make a huge impression at the World cup.
“I am happy to be back. It’s great to get back into the team. This was the call I had been waiting for.
“I am good form now for my club and I now need to show it off with the national team.”
“I think we can do better that what we saw at the Nations Cup.
“At that time, we had injuries. Essien, Muntari and Asamoah Gyan were all injured but now, they would be in the team, so it would be different this time.”
