Ghana’s Accra Hearts of Oak have been placed in Group A of the CAF Champions League after Saturday’s morning’s draw in Egypt.
Group A, arguably the toughest of the two groups includes Nigeria’s Enyimba, Asec Mimosas of Ivory Coast and South Africa’s Orlando Pirates.
Hearts of Oak would be at home in their first group game to Nigeria's Enyimba at the Obuasi Len Clay stadium.
Accra Hearts of Oak board member, Frank Nelson says the Phobians are happy to be in a group, which has three former winners of the competition.
“We are very happy to be in this group.
“We must know that the group has three former champions with the exception of Orlando Pirates who haven’t won the trophy before.
“We are not getting complacent but we must admit, we are comfortable with this group.”
In Group B, Kumasi Asante Kotoko are seeded second to their continental rivals, Al Ahly of Egypt.
The group also includes, Tunisia’s CS Sfaxien and J.S Kabylie of Algeria.
Asante Kotoko would play away to J.S Kabylie in Algiers in their first group game.
Reacting to the pairings, Asante Kotoko’s acting CEO, Jarvis Peprah stated that the Porcupine Warriors have been handed tough group but is hopeful his side would edge out their opponents, especially Al Ahly.
“We have had numerous encounters with Al Ahly. But we believe we have made a good start to the competition and are poised for action.
“But we cannot rule out the strength of the other clubs in the group though history pitches us and Al Ahly as favourites.
“We are dreaming of another continental clash with Accra Hearts of Oak who also find themselves in a tough group.”
The first round of matches for the group stage of the Champions League will be played within the weekend of 14th,15th and 16th July.
