U.S-based coach, Robert Sackey, has dismissed concerns raised over his competence in working as a scout for the technical team of the Black Stars.
There’s been furore over the appointment of Robert Sackey by the Ghana Football Association.
The Football Association recently named Sackey among three coaches tasked to keep Black Stars coach Ratomir Dujkovic and his assistants informed about the activities of Ghana’s group opponents, Italy, the Czech Republic and USA in the build up to the World Cup.
“This is an honour. This is something that I feel great to do for someone that grew up in Ghana.
“So I’m really excited and looking forward to it.
“I have been coaching here for sixteen years so I think for someone who has studied under their coaching school for the last 8-10 years, I think that I do have a good idea of how they do their things over here.”
But speaking to local radio, Sackey said he has all the needed qualities to scout for the Stars on the U.S team and is delighted to take up the job.
“I would ask those people (people questioning his competence) that what does it take for someone who coaches to go and watch a game and give a report about what the other team is doing, what their weaknesses and strengths are.
“I don’t you need someone who has coached World Cup team or Brazil to be able to do that.”
A section of the local sporting press have since the appointment as a scout raised doubts over the technical expertise of Sackey, particularly because his coaching work has been limited to women’s teams in the USA.
