Ghana have cancelled a planned international friendly slated for the end of the month against Iran.
According to the FA’s official spokesperson, Randy Abbey, the call off was necessitated due to the inability to raise a full-strength squad for the game.
Majority of the Black Stars’ first-choice squad members, are based in Europe making it impossible for them to feature in the match since the date did not coincide with FIFA's international calendar, when clubs are forced to release players for international duty.
“We wouldn’t be able to get the full compliment of our players so we asked them to reschedule the date to somewhere in May.”
“We need to look at the dates very closely. If we are not careful, we would go the world cup with tired players.
“We would play a couple of high and low key friendlies before the world cup,” Randy said.
Meanwhile, the football association has confirmed the friendly against Korea Republic in Glasgow, Scotland on 4 June prior to their arrival in Germany for the FIFA World Cup.
Before that, Ghana’s Black Stars would be based in the Portuguese town of Faro ahead of the world cup finals.
The Black Stars last camped in Faro in 1992 before the Cup of Nations in Senegal.
Ghana are drawn in Group E, with the Czech Republic, Italy and the United States, for the month-long tournament which begins on 9 June.
