Media reports have revealed that the El-Wak Park in Accra would be closed down for renovation works in the next few weeks.
The Ghana Armed Forces owners of the facility say they plan to carry out the repairs on sections of the stadium before the World cup finals.
This latest development is set to throw the local football calendar out of gear, as the clubs using the facility will be forced to look for alternative venues.
The El-Wak Park has become the main ground for use by the Accra based clubs following the closure of the Ohene Djan stadium for rehabilitation works.
Last Sunday’s Top 4 encounter between Hearts and Berekum Arsenals highlighted the shortfalls of the venue including the poor nature of the pitch and the deteriorating stands.
The deputy director of Public Relations of the Ghana Armed Forces, Lieutenant Colonel Comfort Ankomah Danso, says the service has already handed the work over to a contractor and is only awaiting the contractor to begin work.
“We know that the El Wak stadium needs some repair works.
“And the Ghana Armed Forces have given it out on contract, when the contractor is ready, the stadium would be closed down for repair works to be done.”
