Kumasi Asante Kotoko beat Royal Aigle club of Cameroon 3-0 in the second leg of their CAF Champions league first round eliminator at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi.
Riding on the back of a 1-1 draw from the first leg, Kotoko sealed a place in the next round of the competition with goals from Charles Taylor, Yusif Chibsah and Obeng Darko.
Charles Taylor sent the club’s teeming fans wild with his first competitive goal as he opened the scoring in the first half.
He smashed the ball into the net after taking advantage of some good work by midfielder Mark Adu Amofah.
Though Kotoko went into the break in the lead, Charles Taylor who pickled an injury just before the interval had to be replaced with Nana Obeng Darko.
The visitor’s goal area was put under intense pressure in the second half, which resulted in goals for Chibsah and Obeng Darko.
Just as in the first leg, Kotoko could have Kotoko could have finished with a higher goal margin but some erratic finishing cost them a handsome win.
Kotoko now qualify 4-1 on aggregate and they join Ghana’s other contender in the Champions league, Accra Hearts of Oak, in the second round.
Hearts of Oak drew a bye after Gambian side Wallidan FC withdrew.
In other results from the Champions league, Renasciemento of Equatorial Guinea knocked Ivorian giants Africa Sports from the competition on the away goals rule.
Renasciemento drew 2-2 with Africa Sports in Abidjan.
USM Alger and Orlando Pirates also progress.
