The Ghana Football Association has denied media reports that it has decided to ban Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien from playing for Ghana. The GFA said it had no proof to confirm media allegations that Essien had faked an injury to stay away from the Nations Cup.
Michael Essien missed out the African Cup of Nations after picking up an injury in Chelsea’s league game against West Ham.
The Graphic Sports, a bi-weekly sports paper yesterday reported that the football federation had resolved to ban the Chelsea star from playing for the Black Stars as the row over his absence from the Nations Cup rumbles on.
But FA president, Kwasi Nyantakyi has denied the newspaper report.
“We have not resolved to ban Michael Essien from the national team.
“As far as we are concerned, Essien was injured and we received a message from his club confirming that injury.
“We have no cause to doubt Michael Essien’s injury.
“There is no basis in that media report.”
Meanwhile, Michael Essien has denied faking his injury ahead of Ghana’s participation at the African Cup of Nations in Egypt.
The Ghana Football Association met the press yesterday to address some massive fallout from the Nations cup competition.
The GFA well represented by its President, Kwesi Nyantakyi, Ratomir Dujkovic, Kofi Nsiah, the general secretary and Fred Pappoe the chairman of the Black Stars management committee.
