The president of the Ghana Football Association, Kwasi Nyantakyi is hopeful of attracting Ghanaian –born youngster, Quincy Owusu-Abeyie to play for the Black Stars.
Nyantakyi is confident Ghana can lure the youngster who is on loan to Russian side, Spartak Moscow from Arsenal.
Owusu-Abeyie has already featured for Holland at the under-21 level but FIFA’s regulations stipulate that although a player may have featured for one country at the youth level, that player has the option to play for a country of preference at the senior level.
Though Kwesi Nyantakyi says that it is the coach’s decision to make changes to his squad following the Black Stars’ first round exit from African Cup of Nations, he is hoping to rope in other talents for Ghana.
“I guess that’s for a coach to decide. But I personally think so. There might not be massive changes but yes, there certainly will be changes.”
“I intend talking to someone like Quincy Owusu-Abeyie who has just moved from Arsenal to Spartak Moscow.
“He is a Ghanaian who has naturalized as a Dutch and has indeed featured for the Dutch under-21 side. But the new FIFA rule is on our side once Abeyie has never featured for the Dutch senior team.
“He now has to make a decision and I intend impressing upon him to consider his roots since he has a big chance to impress the world stage,” Nyantakyi said.
