Accra Great Olympics have asked the organisers of the Nii Amugi Memorial Challenge Cup match to declare them winners of the match played last Sunday, and duly present them with the trophy.
Olympics are requesting to be crowned champions over their city-rivals, Accra Hearts of Oak, because at the time the match between the two teams ended abruptly they were 2-1 up, with only five minutes to end the game.
In an interview with the Graphic Sports yesterday, Mr Humphrey Awuletey-Williams, the Director of Operations of Olympics, said apart from being on top when the match was in its dying minutes, it was the supporters of Hearts of Oak who forced the game to end abruptly, following their invasion of the pitch.
“We are not sure what the match report of the officials was in this instance, but so far as we are concerned, we won the match and the organisers must not hesitate to declare us as such and hand the trophy to us,” Awuletey-Williams stressed.
