Black Stars defender Issa Ahmed, says he is looking forward to the opportunity to play in Europe with his new team, Randers FC. Issa Ahmed would be joining his new club in March when the league resumes in that country.
Ahmed, one of the four locally-based players in the Ghana squad has completed a three-year deal with Randers FC.
He a local radio station, "I feel great because this comes at the right time for me, when my country has qualified for the World Cup for the first time in history. Playing in Europe will give me so much experience before going to the World Cup in June."
He believes he has gained a lot of recognition for his hard work in the Black Stars.
"Being a local player playing in the midst of professionals I need to work extraordinary to prove myself that I can do the job when the chance is given to me. And I think I proved myself so well," he said.
Coach of the Danish club, Lars Olssen, who is in Egypt to monitor the player's performance, was impressed with his output in Ghana's two group matches against Nigeria and Senegal.
"He's a tough guy; very strong, very quick and a good header of the ball. He will give our defense a lot of speed," Olssen intimated.
According to Chief Executive Officer of Randers FC, Jacob Nielson, Ahmed's performance in the two Nations Cup matches only strengthened the club's conviction that the player is a good material.
"We've followed him for the last six months and we're impressed with his fighting spirit. We want to go back to the first division, that's why we need him," Nielson observed.
Issa Ahmed may have been spared the usual tedious chore of undergoing trials before making the final switch.
But he knows that he cannot avoid the biting cold that awaits him in Denmark.
"As a player, you need to cope with any weather you find yourself in. I think I'll manage," he stated nonchalantly.
After just two seasons at Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Issah Ahmed has risen to the rank of captain and he reckons it will be hard to say goodbye.
" I'll miss the team very well because I'm in love with Kotoko and I love playing for Kotoko."
