Acting Ghana Football Association chairman, Kwesi Nyantakyi, has been elected new president of the federation for a four-year term.
Despite an injunction by an Accra High Court demanding the suspension of the process, the electoral commission still went ahead with the polls.
Three of the five candidates contesting the position, Kojo Bonsu, Ade Coker and Vincent Odotei Sowah jointly filed the suit, claiming a lack of transparency in the electoral process. Nyantakyi polled 91 votes to beat his closest rival, Alhaji Y.A Ibrahim, who had 25 votes.
Kojo Bonsu had 7 votes while Coker and Vincent Odotei Sowah both had no votes.
123 delegates from the regional football associations voted at the election, which was held at the Kama conference centre, Labone in the Greater Accra region.
In his acceptance speech, the 38 year-old Kwesi Nyantakyi, called on all the delegates and the football fraternity to support him to streamline the administration of the game, promising an all embracing leadership style.
Nyantakyi will head the new 22-member executive committee.
“It’s victory for all, there are no losers. We would all have to work together and lift Ghana Football high, let’s make Ghana football the winner of this election,” Nyantakyi said in his victory speech.
