Former French national team captain, Marcel Desailly hopes to end his playing days in three months time.

The Ghanaian-born French football legend’s decision ends his initial hopes of making a return to the English premiership.

Desailly ended a deal with Qatar club, Al Qatari, this season and was rumoured to be on the transfer cards of Portsmouth Manager Harry Redknapp.

The former Chelsea captain insists age consideration prompted his retirement ending a celebrated career.

‘I think I’m old now and I have to leave the game for the young ones, ‘he added.

Desailly captained France to win the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000 trophies.
