Africa could get one or two extra places in future World Cups if one of the sides from the continent reaches the semi-finals or final in Germany next year.
Five African nations will compete in the 2006 World Cup, but Issa Hayatou, president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), has insisted that he will do his best to lobby for more spots in subsequent tournaments.
However, president of the World Cup organising committee Franz Beckenbauer has stated that the allocation of places is based solely on performances.
He also revealed that Africa could get up to two more spots if any of the teams progress beyond the quarter final stage in Germany.
Ghana and four other countries: Tunisia, Cote d' Ivoire, Angola and Togo would be representing Africa during next year's world cup to be hosted by Germany.
