Ghana’s Black Queens have completed the year at par with their male counterparts on the FIFA world-ranking table, picking up the fiftieth position.
The Queens are the second best African side on the final edition of the FIFA ranking for 2005, behind fellow West African side, Nigeria.
FIFA’s ranking list currently features 123 national women’s teams that are evaluated on a number of factors, including match results, home advantage, the significance of a match and the strength of the opposition.
Germany are currently top the ranking table followed by the United States in second place.
The Black Queens are at present preparing for the next edition of the African Women’s Championship.
An improved performance during the qualifiers for the Championship is expected to boost the fortunes of the Queens on the ranking table.
To attain this feat, the team plans to tour the regions for some friendly matches.
Yesterday they made their third stop on the tour in Greater Accra and played a select regional side at the Ohene Djan Stadium.
Coach of the side, Bashiru Hayford said the exercise is yielding impressive results.
