Even before the official announcement of the winning bid, reconstruction works have begun in earnest at the Ohene Djan Stadium in Accra.
A tour of the stadium has revealed workers of Italian construction firm Michelleti and Co, busy at work.
The metal railings at the Osu and May 9 stands were being removed while most of the plastic seats had already been removed.
Most of the offices located within the stadium complex have relocated even before the December 31 deadline set by the National Sports Council for the closure of the stadium.
Michelleti and Co. has also won the bid to rehabilitate the Baba Yara stadium in Kumasi.
Works at the two stadia are being done concurrently.
Government formally handed over the sites for the construction of the two new stadia in Sekondi and Tamale to Chinese firm, Shanghai Construction, on Wednesday.
The two firms are expected to complete the projects by September 2007.
