Government has formally handed over the sites for the construction of the two new stadia for the hosting of the 2008 African Cup of Nations.
In simultaneous ceremonies in Sekondi and Tamale-the venues for the two new facilities- government handed over the sites to Shanghai Construction Company of China for the project to take-off.
Education and Sports minister, honourable Yaw Osafo Maafo, conducted the handover in Sekondi while his deputy O.B Amoah handled the event in Tamale.
Rex Danquah, director of operations to the Local Organising Committee says with the handing over ceremony completed, the Chinese firm is expected to complete the two projects latest by September 2007. The rehabilitation of the Ohene Djan stadium in Accra and the Baba Yara stadium in Kumasi is expected to begin soon.
An inspection team from CAF will be in Ghana early next year to inspect the progress of work.
