The Ghana Football Association and the sports ministry have begun frantic efforts to ensure that the national capital makes maximum gains from the hosting of the world cup trophy.
The world cup trophy will make its first stop in Accra on the 6th and 7th of January next year on a planned tour of 29 cities around the world by Coca Cola company and football’s world governing body, FIFA.
The deputy minister for sports, O.B. Amoah says Ghana would show to the world the passion the country attaches to the game.
“We want to give out the best that Ghana can offer so that the rest of the world would know that indeed it was a good decision to start from Ghana.
“The whole world would be watching. Ghana would be exposed to the rest whole world and the whole world to see how passionate Ghana is when it comes to soccer and sports.
“Going to the world cup is not by any accident but it’s been planned and it’s been our dream to get there and we are going there because we love the game and we all speak football, ” O.B Amoah said.
The pure gold trophy will be on display at the Accra International Conference Centre.
And football enthusiasts will have a rare opportunity to have a feel of the prestigious prize ahead of the Germany 2006 finals amidst great fun and entertainment.
The managing director of Coca Cola, Seyi Ogunsanya, is confident that Ghana would be inspired to win the trophy after seeing it first on the World Cup trophy tour.
