Ghana’s hopes of joining the best fifty teams in the world have materialized, albeit not on a grand scale.
The Black Stars have moved one place up in the latest World Ranking released today by world soccer governing body, FIFA and are now ranked fiftieth from the fifty-first position it occupied last month on the ranking table.
Despite the seemingly minimal leap, FIFA considers Ghana as potential winners of the Best Mover of the Year title alongside West African neighbour Togo and Switzerland.
Ghana’s improvement can be traced to her good showing during the just ended World Cup qualifiers where the Black Stars booked a ticket for next year’s soccer event and their recent 3-1 victory over Saudi Arabia in an international friendly.
No African country could manage a place in the top twenty but four of Africa’s world cup contenders made it into the top sixty with the exception of Angola.
On the continental front, Ghana, four-time African champions, similarly moved a step up to the ninth position.
Cameroon are still overlords of Africa followed by Nigeria, though both failed to qualify for the World Cup.
On the world stage, world champions Brazil lead the log with Czech Republic and Netherlands following in that order.
