Ghanaian football fans would be the first to see the FIFA World Cup trophy in January as Coca-Cola, soft drink partner of FIFA, begins a global tour to showcase the trophy.
The debut tour kicks off in Accra, in January.
The tour dubbed ‘the FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour’ is due to be staged every fours years in the months leading up to the world cup finals.
The solid-gold FIFA World Cup Trophy will travel to over 30 cities across each continent.
This is a chance for fans to get close to the world's most coveted prize in sports.
FIFA and the Coca-Cola Company today announced a landmark agreement that extends their partnership over an unprecedented term- from 2007 to 2022- and guarantees the sustained development of the world's most cherished sport across all divides.
FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter and Coca-Cola Chairman E. Neville Isdell signed the deal in Cape Town, South Africa -scene of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Coca-Cola has been an official sponsor of FIFA's flagship event since 1978, but its association with the game dates even further back to 1950 when it began supporting local organising committees at the FIFA World Cup.
