Liberty Professionals have earned high praise for their decision to pay off a sum of $40,000 to revive the career of Michael Osei.
Osei, who joined the Dansoman-based club on transfer from Kumasi Asante Kotoko at the beginning of the last season, has not seen any football action in the last four months as a result of a ban imposed on him by FIFA.
FIFA, upon the request of Korean club, Busan I’Park suspended the player and demanded the refund of the $40,000, which I’Park are demanding from him as signing on fee.
The money is believed to have been squandered by Osei’s agent who brokered the transfer deal with the Korean club while the striker was still under contract at Kotoko.
Sly Tetteh, the chairman of the club says they had to bail the player out to enable him continue with his career.
“The boy is a player of Liberty Professionals now even though we were not aware when we bought the guy to Liberty. And since he is our bonafide property of Liberty now, we have to bail him out so that he can continue his career.
“If we fail to do that, that would be the end of his career. He’s shown great maturity to the club. If we let him go, then we are going to make a loss because we spent so much money in bringing him to the club.
"If he decides to move out of Ghana fine but if it’s a local club then they would have to pay that money before we release him,” Sly Tetteh said.
