The Chairman of the Professional League Board (PLB),has advocated the enlargement of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Disciplinary Committee to eliminate the perennial piling of cases which tend to delay the league.
“I want to seek the approval of Congress to enlarge the disciplinary committee to the extent that we will either have two chairmen,or that the chairman and his vice can sit on Premier and Division One League cases respectively as from next season,” Mr Welbeck Abra-Appiah disclosed to the Graphic.
He,therefore, suggested the need for the current five-member composition as enshrined in the FA regulations to be increased to 10 to ease the pressure on members and also ensure a speedy adjudication of cases.
Mr Abra-Appiah said with a 10-member committee in place, the chairman of the disciplinary committee and any two members could form a quorum and sit on Premier League cases, while the vice chairman also presides over divisions one and two cases with some other members.
He said if his idea was adopted by Congress, five committee members each can be assigned to the premiership and the lower divisions respectively as Article 43(1)of the GFA regulations stipulated that any three members of the disciplinary committee including the chairman or his vice constituted a quorum.
According to the PLB chairman, such an amendment will reduce pending cases and ensure a flow of the FA’s programmes.
He also stressed the need for the Disciplinary and Appeals Committees to have recording equipment to record their proceedings and transcribe them later to ensure smooth operations.
Mr Abra-Appiah did not buy the idea that cases should be heard at the regional level since all the teams had their representatives in Accra.
“The Appeals Committee can remain as it is since it usually has a a few cases to deal with,” he advised. He lamented the situation where pending disciplinary cases which he described as a major problem, often disrupted the season’s programme.
He revealed that the PLB had already drawn a detailed programme for next season, taking into consideration the league,FA Cup,CAF matches, international friendlies and other events which featured prominently on the FA calendar.
