The organizers of the Otumfuo Invitational tournament say they are close to concluding talks with Burkinabe club, Asfag Yenenga, to compete in the tournament as late replacements for Accra Hearts of Oak.
Hearts have withdrawn from the inaugural edition of the competition because they need ample time to prepare for the club’s congress.
A spokesman for the organizers, Edward Yigah, told Joy Sports, the withdrawal of the Phobians is a disappointment but they have moved quickly to salvage the tournament.
The Phobians opted out of the competition, citing ‘unforeseen circumstances’ as the reason for their withdrawal.
The competition, which includes; reigning CAF champions league winners, Enyimba, Asec Mimosas from Cote d’Ivoire, Kotoko, Ashanti gold and King Faisal.
West African club giants Enyimba and Asec Mimosas will be in Ghana in November to take part in a special six club invitational tournament in Obuasi.
The Otumfuo Invitational Cup tournament takes place from November 30 to December 5 and will have Ghanaian clubs Kumasi Asante Kotoko, AshantiGold and King Faisal in attendance.
Enyimba, winners of back-to-back continental titles in the CAF Champions league have confirmed their participation in the competition with the Ivorians, Asec Mimosas also having confirmed their involvement.
The tournament is been organized to celebrate the Ashanti King's - Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, five-year reign on the Golden Stool.
